Aguascalientes lies 300 miles to the northwest of México city and is the capital of the state by the same name, within which is contained the exact geographical center of México The name Aguascalientes means, hot waters, which references the many thermal springs in and around the city. Aguascalientes is blessed with a mild climate year round (warm days - cool nights), clear skies, fertile soil and extremely friendly citizens. The city (and state) does an excellent job of balancing a delicate mix of colonial architecture, industrial activities and still manages to maintain a small town ambience. The city center, Plaza de la Patria to be exact, is an excellent place to start a leisurely city tour and take in much of the picturesque architecture that is so dominant. The city's centerpiece, Basílica de Ansunción de las Aguacalientes, is a masterpiece of classic colonial architecture. More beautiful churches, some fine museums, cultural centers and theatres are located nearby, enough to keep anyone busy for a couple of days. Cultural activities are regular occurrences in the city center, check locally for schedules. Shopping for locally produced items is also a very popular pastime in the downtown area. You will find fine lace and embroidered items, leather clothing, textiles of all kinds, hand crafted furniture, all types of cowboy articles, some quality antiques and many varieties of candied fruits. The outlying countryside contains some of México's finest vineyards, producing quality wines and brandy. Beautiful haciendas dot the country side, many are used solely for producing some of the fiercest fighting bulls in the country. Bullfights are held locally in Plaza Toreo Monumental, one of the most beautiful in Latin America, with a seating capacity of over 18,000. Aguascalientes also produces some of México's most famous matadors, if you are in town when a bullfight is scheduled, try not to miss it. Rodeos are another popular pastime with the locals. The internationally known San Marcos National Fair, celebrated from mid April to the first week in May, is widely known as one of the most important celebrations in México. During the fair visitors can enjoy cockfights, bullfights, rodeos, prize-cattle shows, industrial and commercial exhibitions as well as incredible cultural events and other fair oriented activities. The fair is an Aguascalientes tradition which started back in 1838 and attracts over 1 million visitors annually.

Ajijic is fast becoming the favorite area in which to settle on Lake Chapala. Just a few miles west of the town of Chapala, Ajijic is a charming lakeside village that has retained all of the charms of Old México. Ajijic is beginning to attract more visitors than all of its neighbors, yet Ajijic retains the timely quality of an early day stagecoach stop. This is a great compliment to this charming little town. Horses and donkeys are still used for daily transportation and the siesta hour is still a very important part of everyday life. The cobblestone streets and shady sidewalks are a haven for the children of the town who play soccer, hide n' seek, baseball or stickball on the streets as much as in the parks.

This small town, approximately 15 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, stretches along the Bay of Banderas, just a bit north of Nuevo Vallarta. Bucerías is very laid back with a great beach, several hotels and a few great eateries. Bucerías is becoming a favorite among retirees. Quite a few homes have been built here by those wishing a bit slower pace than Puerto Vallarta has to offer. You may find the laid back pace to your liking. Limited water sports are available from the beach and several golf courses are located near by.

Cabo San Lucas, where the sea, sun and desert join to cast an air of mystery and romance over all who visit. Cabo was once a tranquil fishing village and, in times long ago, a hangout for pirates. Although no longer the fishing village of old, and not many of the old pirates are seen around town any more, the magic of Cabo remains. Cabo is still small and charming by any standards, with a population of under 40,000. With the number of activities available to the visitor, you could easily imagine you are in a giant amusement park. Golf has become a major factor in the Cabo San Lucas equation, with five championship courses complete and more on the way, Los Cabos has quietly become the golf capital of México. Cabo has come of age. Located at the southernmost tip of the magnificent Baja peninsula, Cabo has been blessed with what many describe as the perfect climate. Average year-round temperature is 78 degrees, it is a little cooler in the winter and a bit warmer in the summer. For years Cabo was the remote playground reserved solely for movie stars and private yacht owners. They flocked here to be near "Marlin Alley", as the waters around Cabo have often been described. The name is well deserved, as Cabo San Lucas is the undisputed billfish capital of the world.

Campeche is unique city with a very colorful history, history is the main reason the city is so unique. Originally a Mayan trading village, the Spaniards arrived in 1520 and attempted to conquer the village. It took them almost twenty years to defeat the Mayan population and in 1540 Campeche was declared a city. It didn't take long for Campeche to become eastern México's principle seaport, shipping goods from all over the country back to Spain and other parts of Europe. Much of the gold and silver produced in other regions was shipped from Campeche. Because the city was prospering and there was almost always gold and silver stored locally, the city was pillaged and plundered by pirates on an all too regular basis. In 1663 after a particularly brutal attack, which nearly wiped out the entire population, it was decided that a huge wall had to be built to protect the city against further attacks. The wall was not started until 1686, it was a giant undertaking, being 12 feet thick in places, it even extended into the sea where they built huge iron gates for the loading and unloading of galleons. Twenty years later the city was completely surrounded by walls and the attacks were finally quelled. Parts of the wall remain to this day. The city today is a pleasant mixture of old and new. Many colonial buildings, homes and mansions are a reminder of the city's rich history. Tours of the city are provided, free of charge, in old fashioned trolley cars, by the local tourism department. The city center is filled with pleasant restaurants that serve up seafood specialties such as local shrimp, fresh fish, conch and even shark. Saturday evenings there are free performances of traditional folkloric music and dances in Plaza Moch-Cuouh, near Parque Principal. Sunday evenings there are free concerts in Parque Principal. There is a helpful tourist office in Plaza Moch-Cuouh, be sure to ask about tours to the forts and the Friday evening sound and light show which chronicles the history of the city with lights, music and drama. The city continues to prosper because of the nearby oil fields and commercial fishing. Tourism is becoming important, as the state has many important archaeological sites, and word is quickly spreading about the relaxed atmosphere and colonial ambience of Campeche. Tours to the nearby ruins of Edzná and Haltunchen are easily arranged in the city center. Hunting and fishing tours are easily arranged, also |

Cancun is a resort for everybody, from college students on a strict budget to the rich and famous from all over the world. Cancun caters to all who visit and everyone should experience Cancun at least once. Cancun is definitely México’s showcase resort. The original developers and the Mexican government can be proud of what they have accomplished here. Built in a location that was named by Mayan people, long ago, for the large number of snakes in the area, Cancun has been carefully groomed into one of the most polished resorts anywhere. Long gone are the snakes and most of the mosquitoes that might have enjoyed the numerous lagoons. Few resorts in the world have the infrastructure and amenities that were built into Cancun from the beginning. Everything just seems to flow together effortlessly in Cancun. This is one of the reasons that Cancun is México's most popular resort, the other reason being... Location, Location, Location!
